Alcoa Inc., the largest U.S. aluminum producer, said Monday its electrical business will close its operations in Puebla, Mexico, and its warehouse in Del Rio, Texas, citing lower production demand.
The closures, which will occur in the third quarter, will result in the elimination of about 65 jobs in Del Rio and about 1,400 in Puebla, the company said.
Alcoa Electrical and Electronics Solutions employs about 14,000 people in Mexico and 1,350 in the United States. It produces electrical distribution systems and other products for the North American light and heavy vehicle markets.
Alcoa shares rose $2.57, or 6.6 percent, to close at $41.61. Shares slipped 15 cents in aftermarket electronic trading.
