A Cowen & Co. analyst says Barr Pharmaceuticals is preparing to launch "an exceedingly strong product cycle," and he upgraded the stock to "Outperform" from "Neutral."
On Friday, Barr Pharmaceuticals Inc. received approval to sell a generic version of the oral contraceptive Yasmin. Analyst Ken Cacciatore said that in the coming months, Barr will start selling its version, which will be followed by a generic version of the attention deficit hyperactivity disorder drug Adderall XR.
Barr could have exclusive rights to generic Yasmin until 2010, Cacciatore said, and the market for Adderall XR may be larger than he expected.
He added that the Montvale, N.J., company could launch generic versions of allergy drug Allegra D, birth control pill Yaz, and others products. It could also receive patent settlements related to those drugs.
