Internet software and services stocks mostly rose Tuesday, with Yahoo climbing ahead of the sector after a report indicated billionaire investor Carl Icahn may start a proxy fight with the struggling Internet icon.
In a Tuesday report, CNBC cited people who have spoken with Icahn as saying that he is considering launching a proxy fight.
Proxy fights are often begun in an effort replace members of a company's board.
How key Internet software and services companies performed Tuesday:
Yahoo Inc. rose $1.30, or 5.2 percent, to $26.56.
Akamai Technologies Inc. fell 35 cents to $37.59.
Google Inc. fell $1.94 to $583.
EBay Inc. rose 29 cents to $31.41.
VeriSign Inc. rose 67 cents to $38.63.
