Closing Glance: Gold mining shares end mostly down

Shares of gold mining companies fell Wednesday as the price of the precious metal declined and the U.S. dollar strengthened.

The New York Mercantile Exchange price for gold to be delivered in June fell $3.10 an ounce to settle at $866.50 an ounce.

Here is how some gold miners fared in Wednesday's trading:

Goldcorp Inc. fell 71 cents to $38.29.

Gold Fields Ltd. fell 26 cents to $13.52.

Newmont Mining Corp. rose 6 cents to $45.10.

Barrick Gold Corp. fell 91 cents to $37.76.
