Opening Glance: Gold mining shares open mixed

Shares of gold mining companies were mixed Wednesday as the price of the metal declined and the U.S. dollar strengthened.

Gold opened in London at $867.30, down from $867.75 late Tuesday. The 15-nation euro purchased $1.5436 in morning European trading, down from $1.5480 late Tuesday in New York.

Here is how some gold miners are trading:

Goldcorp Inc. gained 16 cents to $39.16.

Gold Fields Ltd. fell 9 cents to $13.69.

Newmont Mining Corp. added 25 cents to $45.29.

Barrick Gold Corp. fell 8 cents to $38.59.
