Shares of biotechnology companies closed lower Thursday despite an advance in the broader market.

Here is how several key biotechnology stocks performed Thursday:

Celgene Corp., down $1.71, or 2.8 percent, at $59.29.

Amgen Inc., down 15 cents to $42.05.

Biogen Idec Inc., up 55 cents to $62.90.

Genentech Inc., down 43 cents to $68.83.
