Opening Glance: Insurers open mixed

Shares of insurers were mixed early Thursday, with bond and mortgage insurers mostly rising and property and casualty insurers mostly falling, as broader markets were mixed after the government said claims for unemployment benefits rose last week.

How shares of major insurers were performing:

Assured Guaranty Ltd. rose 28 cents to $24.90.

PMI Group Inc. rose 13 cents, or 2.2 percent, to $5.95.

American International Group Inc. fell 20 cents to $39.24.

Chubb Corp. fell 37 cents to $53.56.
