Internet software and services stocks mostly rose Thursday morning, with Yahoo Inc. gaining after billionaire activist investor Carl Icahn confirmed he is launching a proxy battle to replace Yahoo's board of directors.

How key Internet software and services stocks performed Thursday morning:

Yahoo Inc. rose 58 cents to $27.72.

Google Inc. rose $4.88 to $581.18.

EBay Inc. fell 4 cents to $31.18.

VeriSign Inc. rose 39 cents to $40.03.
