Aluminum maker Alcoa Inc.'s stock recorded the largest gain on the Dow Jones industrial average Monday, helping to send the index to a higher finish.
The blue chip index advanced 41.36 points to 13,028.16, with half the stocks ending higher.
Wall Street ended mixed after the Conference Board's leading economic indicators report showed a 0.1 percent gain for April, following a similar rise in March.
Alcoa Inc. rose $1.44, or 3.3 percent, to $44.59.
Boeing Co. shares climbed $1.90, or 2.2 percent, to $87.07.
Exxon Mobil Corp. rose $1.69 to $94.36 as the price of oil rose.
On the losing side, Microsoft Corp. declined 53 cents to $29.46. The company has revived talks with Yahoo Inc.
Shares of insurer American International Group Inc. shed 39 cents to $38.95.
Hewlett-Packard Co. declined 58 cents to $46.71. The company reports quarterly results on Tuesday.
