Shares of investment banks declined Wednesday as an analyst warned Lehman could post a loss in the fiscal second quarter, and as broader markets fell sharply due to record oil prices and a bleak assessment of the economy by the Federal Reserve.

Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. shares tumbled $2.44, or 5.8 percent, to $39.56
Bear Stearns Cos. shares fell 26 cents, or 2.7 percent, to $9.35
Shares of Goldman Sachs Group Inc. declined $3.83, or 2.1 percent, to $178.60
Merrill Lynch & Co. shares fell $1.32, or 2.9 percent, to $44.99
Shares of Morgan Stanley dropped $1.91, or 4.3 percent, to $42.89
