OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) _ Cost Plus Inc., a home furnishing products retailer, on Wednesday said its fiscal first-quarter loss widened, hurt partly by an earlier Easter and higher expenses.

PHOENIX (AP) _ Pet products retailer PetSmart Inc. on said Wednesday its fiscal first-quarter profit fell 61 percent as the gains from a stock sale came off the books, but its results were a bit better than analysts expected.

MIAMI (AP) _ Apparel maker Perry Ellis International Inc. on Wednesday said fiscal first-quarter profit fell 4 percent, but results exceeded analyst expectations as revenue increased.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (AP) _ Synopsys Inc.'s profit slipped 5 percent on special items in the fiscal second quarter, the company said Wednesday.
