PLEASANTON, Calif. (AP) _ Apparel retailer Ross Stores Inc. said Wednesday its first-quarter profit grew 19 percent due to growth in same-store sales and a real estate settlement that added to income.

MILWAUKEE (AP) _ Brady Corp., which makes labels, signs and safety devices, said Wednesday its fiscal third-quarter earnings rose 19 percent due to improving sales and margins.

BOSTON (AP) _ BJ's Wholesale Club Inc. reported a nearly 26 percent increase in its first-quarter profit and raised earnings expectations for the full year, reaping the benefits of a tough economy that's increasingly sending shoppers to discounters in search of deals.

NEW YORK (AP) _ Solar cell maker Solarfun Power Holdings Co. Ltd. said Wednesday it swung to a profit in the first quarter as higher selling prices offset rising raw material costs.
