Safeguard Scientifics names Zarrilli as new CFO

Safeguard Scientifics Inc., which funds early stage technology and life-science companies, said Thursday it named Stephen Zarrilli as chief financial officer.

Zarrilli replaces Raymond J. Land, who becomes CFO of medical device maker and partner company Clarient Inc. on June 5.

Zarrilli previously served as acting CFO of Safeguard from December 2006 to June 2007. Zarrilli is a co-founder and will remain as non-executive chairman of Penn Valley Group, a middle-market management advisory and private equity firm.

Safeguard also said that on June 30, it will issue Zarrilli an incentive award of options to buy up to 1.5 million of the company's common shares, vesting at varying times.
