American Science and Engineering Inc., which makes X-ray inspection systems, said Tuesday it has named board member Denis R. Brown as chairman, following the death of Lt. Gen. William E. Odom.
Odom, 75, was elected to the board in 1996 and was appointed chairman in 1998. He served 34 years as an officer in the U.S. Army and later served as director of the National Security Agency under President Ronald Reagan.
Brown is currently an adviser to a start-up software company. Previously, he served as chairman and chief executive of Pinkerton's Inc.
American Science shares fell 58 cents to $50.30 in afternoon trading.
