Healthcare service provider Kindred Healthcare Inc. spent $250,000 lobbying the federal government in the first quarter, according to a recent disclosure form.
The company lobbied on bills designed to increase oversight of nursing homes. Congress has stepped up its scrutiny of such businesses since November when regulators took the unusual step of publicizing the names of more than 50 of the worst nursing homes in the nation.
Kindred Healthcare representatives also lobbied the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services on payments to nursing homes and other health care providers.
The Louisville, Ky.-based company, which operates hospitals, rehabilitation centers and imaging centers, also lobbied the Health and Human Services Department, according to a form filed April 18 with the House clerk's office.
