The American Gaming Association, a trade group that represents the casino industry, spent $800,000 in the first quarter to lobby on Internet gambling legislation and other issues.
The trade group lobbied on several online gambling measures, including a proposal that would mandate a federal study to look at the licensing, regulation and taxation of Internet gambling, as well as on a separate proposal that would license companies that accept online bets.
The AGA, whose members include Bally Technologies Inc. and MGM Mirage, also lobbied on a measure intended to attract more tourists to the U.S., and rules governing the taxation of employee tips.
Besides Congress, the group lobbied the Treasury Department in the first three months of the year, according to a form filed April 18 with the House clerk's office.
