Hospital chain MedCath Corp. said Monday it plans to expand its Bakersfield Heart Hospital in Bakersfield, Calif., at a cost of between $50 million and $60 million.
The company said it plans to add 72 inpatient beds to the hospital's existing 47 inpatient beds and expand its emergency department by 16 beds.
MedCath plans to submit an application for the expansion to state regulators within six months and expects construction to take about two years after it is approved. Based on this, the company expects the expansion to open in late fiscal 2012, which ends in September.
