Weyerhaeuser Co., one of the world's largest timberland owners and wood products manufacturers, spent $580,000 in the first quarter on lobbying, according to a recent disclosure report.
The Federal Way, Wash.-based company lobbied on legislation involving trade, taxes, energy, the environment and natural resources, and immigration, according to an amended report filed April 22 with House clerk's office.
Another issue of interest was railroad competition legislation. Weyerhaeuser owns four regional short-line railroads, used mainly to deliver goods to mills in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi and Washington.
Besides Congress, the company lobbied the departments of Commerce, Treasury, Agriculture, Energy and other agencies in the first three months of the year.
