Brigham Exploration Co. said Wednesday it expects to begin commercial production in August from the first of six wells drilled in a joint venture with Clayton Williams Energy Co.
The SL 18826 #1 well encountered what appears to be natural gas at depths between 7,140 and 7,680 feet. The first well appparently is a primarily natural gas well, with the potential for either crude oil or condensate production, a company spokesman said.
Condensate is a very light liquid hydrocarbon sometimes produced with natural gas and crude oil.
Shares of Brigham Exploration rose 60 cents, or 3.6 percent, to $17.41 in early afternoon trading. Shares of Clayton Williams fell $3.10, or 2.7 percent, to $113.99.
