Specialty metals maker Carpenter Technology Corp. said Monday that it filed a lawsuit against Allegheny Technologies Inc. alleging two U.S. patents Allegheny holds are not valid.
The suit, which is related to two patents for a method of producing and making 30-inch large-diameter 718 ingots of nickel-based alloys, was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
Carpenter said it is seeking a declaration that it has not infringed on or is not infringing on the patents, and an order that the patents are not valid.
Carpenter makes and sells various sized ingots of a nickel base 718 alloy at its Reading, Pa., plant.
Dan Greenfield, a spokesman for Allegheny, said the company does not comment on litigation.
