Real estate trusts spent $670,000 lobbying in 1Q

A trade association representing real estate developers and property owners spent $670,000 lobbying in the first quarter, according to a recent disclosure form.

The National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts lobbied on legislation that would make tax law changes backed by the industry, according to an amended filing posted June 2 by the House clerk's office.

The trade group _ whose members include ProLogis, Boston Properties Inc. and AvalonBay Communities Inc. _ also lobbied on insurance, labor and intellectual property legislation.

Besides lawmakers, NAREIT lobbied the Treasury Department.
