Alcon, Advanced Medical Optics in licensing deal

Alcon Inc. said Tuesday it signed a patent cross-licensing agreement with fellow eyecare products maker Advanced Medical Optics Inc. related to lubricant coatings for lens implant insertion devices and a one-piece implant design.
Advanced Medical will pay $10 million for worldwide licenses under a family of Alcon patents, including single-piece implants similar to Advanced Medical's recently launched Tecnis ZCB00 model.
Alcon will pay $31 million for licenses under two families of patents owned by Advanced Medical, related to coating systems currently used in its Monarch and Acrysert lens implant insertion devices, and any similar future coating systems Alcon may develop.
Further details weren't disclosed.
Switzerland-based Alcon is majority owned by food maker Nestle SA.
