Closing Glance: Insurers finish mixed

Shares of insurers finished mixed Tuesday as new reports showed consumer confidence plunged this month and home prices continued their sharp slide.

How some insurers fared Tuesday:

MBIA Inc. rose 8 cents to $4.90.

American International Group Inc. fell 47 cents to $29.83.

Allstate Corp. declined 10 cents to $47.46.

Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. rose 30 cents to $68.80.
