PLANO, Texas (AP) _ J.C. Penney Co. will further slow the pace of new department store openings and cut capital spending next year because of the weak economy.

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) _ German airline owner Deutsche Lufthansa AG on Wednesday reaffirmed its profit outlook for the year despite higher fuel prices.

PARAMUS, N.J. (AP) _ Shares of Hudson City Bancorp Inc. rose Wednesday, after its chief executive said Wall Street expectations for 2008 profit are "reasonable," based on credit trends at the regional bank through May.
