Information technology company CA Inc. spent over $255,000 lobbying on tax, trade and technology issues in the first quarter, according to a recent disclosure form.
The Islandia, N.Y.-based company lobbied on several bills involving research tax credits, taxation of foreign income, immigration, patent system changes, health care technology and data privacy, according to an amended filing filed April 21 with the House clerk's office.
An effort to overhaul the patent system stalled in Congress amid fierce opposition from the pharmaceutical industry, which argues that the proposed changes will weaken patent protections on drugs by reducing infringement penalties. High-tech companies support the legislation, saying it would cut down on frivolous lawsuits.
Besides lawmakers, the company lobbied the White House budget office, the Commerce, Homeland Security and Treasury departments, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in the first three months of the year.
