Specialty glass and ceramics maker Corning Inc. spent $220,000 in the first quarter lobbying on a new diesel emission reduction program, according to a recent disclosure report.
The Corning, N.Y.-based company lobbied on legislation to fund the Environmental Protection Agency's latest diesel emission reduction program at $50 million as proposed in the White House's fiscal 2009 budget.
Corning recorded $249 million in diesel product sales last year. The company forecasts that its diesel product sales will grow between 15 percent and 20 percent this year.
Separately, Corning lobbied for research and development funding for transparent ceramic armor.
Besides Congress, Corning lobbied the EPA, Defense Department and Council on Environmental Quality in the first three months of the year, according to the report filed April 21 with the House clerk's office.
