Ohio hires EDS to streamline its tax system

Electronic Data Systems Corp. said Monday it was awarded a $42.8 million contract by the Ohio Department of Taxation to modernize the state's tax and revenue system.
Under terms of the 4.5-year contract, EDS unit Saber Government Solutions will simplify and streamline tax services to and collect state taxes more efficiently, the information-technology company said.
Saber will consolidate 23 major state tax types from 27 legacy applications and databases into a single application.
EDS shares rose 10 cents to $24.67 in afternoon trading.
