Shares of gold-mining companies closed mostly higher Tuesday as the price of the commodity jumped in U.S. trading.
The price of gold for August delivery on the New York Mercantile Exchange surged $16.20 to $944.50 an ounce.
How some gold miners fared.
Goldcorp Inc. rose $1.99, or 4.3 percent, to $48.16.
Gold Fields Ltd. fell 2 cents to $12.63.
Newmont Mining Corp. rose $1.21, or 2.3 percent, to $53.37.
Barrick Gold Corp. rose 86 cents to $46.36.
