DemandTec 1Q loss narrows

DemandTec Inc., which makes price-management software for retailers and consumer-goods manufacturers, said Wednesday its first-quarter loss narrowed, helped by a big boost in revenue.
For the quarter ended May 31, the company reported a loss of $1 million, or 4 cents per share, compared with a loss of $1.2 million, or 19 cents per share, in the prior- year quarter.
Excluding stock-based compensation and amortization costs, the company said it earned 3 cents per share.
Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expected profit of 2 cents per share.
Revenue jumped 36 percent to $18.1 million from $13.2 million in the first quarter of 2008. Analysts predicted revenue of $17.6 million.
Shares rose 6 cents to $7.21 in after-hours trading. During regular trading, shares dropped 58 cents, or 7.5 percent, to close at $7.15.
