Nasdaq 100 Leaders and Laggards: HANS VRSN YHOO

The Nasdaq 100 finished higher on Monday with shares of beverage company Hansen Natural Corp. posting gains after an analyst said convenience store sales of energy drinks were strong in June.

The index, which includes 100 of the largest nonfinancial securities listed on the Nasdaq Stock Market, rose 10.58 points to 1,826.93. The broader Nasdaq composite retreated 2.06 points to 2,243.32.

Shares of Hansen rose $3.28, or 13 percent, to $28.53 following comments from Goldman Sachs analyst Judy E. Hong, who rates the stock "Neutral."

Shares of Yahoo Inc. jumped $2.56, or 12 percent, to $23.91 after Microsoft Corp. said it might renew a buyout offer for the company if Yahoo's board is ousted.

Shares of United Airlines parent UAL Corp. rose 33 cents, or 8.6 percent, to $4.19, as crude prices slipped. Fuel is one of airlines' biggest costs.

On the losing side, shares of VeriSign Inc. slipped $3.49, or 9.5 percent, to $33.25. The security software company said Chief Executive William A. Roper resigned.

Shares of drug maker Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. declined $4.02, or 8.5 percent, to $43.18. The company posted disappointing results from a trial of Copaxone, its multiple sclerosis drug.

Shares of Virgin Media Inc. declined 68 cents, or 5.3 percent, to $12.05.
