Shares of the largest telecommunications companies opened higher along with the broader market Monday as oil prices declined as much as $5 to below $141 a barrel.

How some key telecom stocks performed Monday morning:

Verizon Communications Inc. rose 25 cents to $36.

AT&T Inc. rose 27 cents to $32.85.

Sprint Nextel Corp. rose 25 cents, or 2.9 percent, to $8.76.

Qwest Communications International Inc. rose 11 cents, or 2.9 percent, to $3.87.
