Telecommunications stocks ended Tuesday overwhelmingly higher as the broader market headed higher.

Oil prices declined sharply for the second day and investors seemed reassured by the possibility of more help for the financial sector.

How some key telecom stocks performed Tuesday:

Verizon Communications Inc. rose 36 cents to $35.36.

AT&T Inc. rose 68 cents, or 2.1 percent, to $32.96.

Sprint Nextel Corp. rose 33 cents, or 3.8 percent, to $8.96.

Qwest Communications International Inc. rose 5 cents to $3.88.
