Shares of Bank of America Corp. rose Tuesday, leading the Dow Jones industrial average higher.
The blue chip index jumped 152.25 points to 11,384.21, as investors were cheered by the declining price of oil, which has risen to record levels in recent weeks.
Shares of Bank of America rose $2.01, or 9.3 percent, to $23.54.
Other financial stocks rose, including Citigroup Inc., which gained 99 cents, or 6 percent, to $17.39.
Insurer American International Group Inc. gained $1.46, or 5.6 percent, to $27.40.
On the losing side, shares of Alcoa Inc. declined $1.06, or 3.2 percent, to $32.33, ahead of the aluminum maker's quarterly report.
Shares of machinery company Caterpillar Inc. lost $1.30 to $69.51.
Computer and printer maker Hewlett-Packard Co. slipped 55 cents to $43.45.
