Chip maker Intel Corp. has formed a strategic alliance with DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. to supply chips and other technology aimed at creating 3-D animated movies, the companies said Tuesday.
DreamWorks has committed to producing all of its feature films in 3-D beginning next year.
As part of the deal, DreamWorks will convert to an Intel-based system.
Intel will also work to develop technology that enables 3-D viewing on a range of other platforms in addition to movie theaters, including home theaters, personal computers, video games, and mobile devices.
Shares of DreamWorks added 30 cents to $29.06 in trading after the opening bell, while Intel shares gained 29 cents to $21.
