Forest products company Weyerhaeuser Co. said Tuesday that it will permanently close its idled Structurwood mill in Alberta, Canada.
The oriented strand board mill was originally shut down December 2007 as a result of the declining U.S. housing market and high Canadian dollar.
Company officials said that those factors have not changed in the months since, resulting in the decision to permanently shutter the mill.
At the time the mill was idled, it employed about 130 people, some of whom have moved to other Weyerhaeuser operations while others have received severance, the company said.
Weyerhaeuser shares rose $1.04, or 2.1 percent, to close at $50.54.
