KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ FCStone Group Inc., a commodity risk management firm, said Thursday its fiscal third-quarter profit dropped less than 1 percent, but earnings were well short of analysts' expectations, sending shares plummeting in early trading.

MAYFIELD VILLAGE, Ohio (AP) _ Auto insurer Progressive Corp. said Thursday its profit dropped 24 percent in the second quarter, hurt by a slight decline in net premiums written and hefty losses on investments.
