Hamburger chain Wendy's International Inc. said Thursday that same-store sales at company-owned restaurants rose 0.1 percent in the second quarter.
Same-store sales, or sales at restaurants open at least a year _ considered a key indicator of a retailer's strength _ rose 0.7 percent in the year-ago period. At franchise restaurants, same-store sales rose 1.1 percent during the quarter, compared with 0.4 percent in the prior-year period.
The company noted that the Easter holiday fell in the first quarter this year, as opposed to the second quarter a year ago, which positively impacted same-store sales results at company-operated restaurants by 0.3 percent.
During the quarter, the company relaunched its premium salad line and introduced new Frosty shakes and Chicken Go Wraps.
Atlanta-based Triarc Companies Inc., owned by billionaire Nelson Peltz, said in April it will pay about $2.34 billion in an all-stock deal for the nation's third-largest hamburger chain. Wendy's had rejected at least two previous buyout offers from Triarc, which also owns Arby's Restaurant Group.
Wendy's will report full second-quarter results on Aug. 5.
