Shares of silver mining companies closed higher Friday as the price of the metal gained in U.S. trading.
Silver for September delivery rose 46.5 cents to $18.785 an ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Silver Standard Resources Inc. 57 cents, or 2.1 percent, to $28.14.
Silver Wheaton Corp. rose 97 cents, or 6.9 percent, to $15.08.
Pan American Silver Corp. rose $1.51, or 4.5 percent, to $35.22.
Hecla Mining Co. rose 59 cents, or 6.7 percent, to $9.45.
