Shares of insurers fell early Friday as the broader market plunged amid fears Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the nation's largest purchasers of mortgages, would need a government bailout.
Here's a look at how some insurers fared early Friday:
MBIA Inc. fell 19 cents, or 4.5 percent, to $4.01.
MGIC Investment Corp. fell 55 cents, or 10.6 percent, to $4.63.
American International Group Inc. fell 48 cents, or 2 percent, to $23.51.
XL Capital Ltd. fell $1.06, or 6.1 percent, to $16.47.
