Rambus Inc., a provider of technology licenses, said late Thursday it filed a patent infringement suit against Nvidia Corp.
Rambus alleges six Nvidia product lines infringe 17 patents it holds covering various graphics and multimedia processors in the suit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
Rambus senior vice president and general counsel, Tom Lavelle, said the company has been negotiating with Nvidia but did not succeed in reaching a licensing agreement. Rambus will continue to hold negotiations while the lawsuit is pending, Lavelle said.
A Nvidia representative could not be immediately reached for comment.
