Health care products and services company Cardinal Health Inc. has agreed to pay a $105,000 fine to settle accusations that it failed to report suspicious drug orders, the state's pharmaceutical board said.
The company sold thousands of pain killers and other controlled substances from a warehouse in Findlay to Caringwell Pharmacy in suburban Columbus. The pharmacy's license was revoked last year after an investigation determined that it illegally sold medication over the Internet, Tim Benedict, assistant director of the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy, said Wednesday.
State regulations require Cardinal Health and other wholesalers to monitor drug sales and report unusual spikes, Benedict said.
Under terms of a settlement agreement signed last week, Cardinal Health "neither admits nor denies the allegations pending in the board's investigation."
The company, based in the Columbus suburb of Dublin, also agreed to change the way it monitors drug sales, Benedict said.
