The investment office that manages the assets of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Trust says it would not support Waste Management Inc.'s bid to buy a rival trash hauler.

BGI owns 15.6 percent of Republic Services Inc., which was the target of an unsolicited $6.19 billion cash offer made by Waste Management earlier this week. BGI also owns 2.3 percent of Houston-based Waste Management.
