Nutrition 21 will supply products to Walgreen

Dietary supplements maker Nutrition 21 Inc. said Tuesday it will supply drugstore operator Walgreen Co. four new products, beginning late summer or early fall.

The company will provide three new chromium picolinate products for Walgreen's Finest Natural retail brand and one product for Walgreen's Gold Seal Private Label brand.

Chromium picolinate is an easily absorbable form of the mineral chromium, which helps increase the efficiency of insulin.

Company Co-Chief Operating Officer Michael Fink said the deal helps it expand its retail nutrition supplement business.

He expects to begin receiving revenue from the new products during the quarter ending Sept. 30.

Shares rose 1 cent, or 3.3 percent, to 41 cents during morning trading. The stock has traded between 25 cents and $1.65 during the past year.
