Ducommun 2Q profit rises 28 percent on sales

Ducommun Inc., a provider of engineering and manufacturing services for the aerospace and defense industries, said Monday its second-quarter profit jumped 28 percent due to strong product sales.

For the quarter ended June 28, net income rose to $5.8 million, or 55 cents per share, from $4.6 million, or 44 cents per share, in the prior-year quarter.

Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expected profit of 51 cents per share.

Revenue climbed 13 percent to $102.9 million from $91.1 million in the second quarter of 2007. Analysts anticipated revenue of $101.2 million.

Product sales, which make up the bulk of the company's overall revenue, rose 16 percent. Ducommun said both military and commercial sales were strong.
