DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) _ Port operator DP World on Thursday reported an 80 percent jump in first-half profit, and said it remains committed to international growth despite signs of a short-term slowdown in the shipping industry.

NEW YORK (AP) _ Russian telecommunications provider Vimpel Communications on Thursday reported its earnings and revenue grew in the second quarter.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ Del Monte Foods Co. said Thursday it swung to a fiscal first-quarter loss as costs of ingredients and raw products climbed faster than the company could raise prices on its products.

NEW YORK (AP) _ Origin Agritech Ltd., a Chinese seed company, said Thursday its fiscal third-quarter profit jumped 63 percent as rising selling prices and lower marketing costs expanded gross margins.

Defined-benefit plan: A defined-benefit plan is a retirement arrangement in which an eligible retired employee receives specified payouts from his former employer throughout retirement.
