Biotechnology drugmaker ZymoGenetics said Wednesday it restructured its agreement with partner Merck Serono for the development of treatment for autoimmune diseases.
ZymoGenetics said it will no longer fund the development of atacicept, which is being studied as a treatment for lupus, multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis. Under the new agreement, Merck Serono will be responsible for developing the treatment, and ZymoGenetics will receive royalties from its sale. Merck Serono is a division of Darmstadt, Germany-based Merck KGaA.
The companies said they also revised research agreements for two other experimental drugs to pare costs. ZymoGenetics will now control the development of IL-31 mAb, and Merck Serono will be responsible for developing IL-17RC. Both drugs are being studied as potential treatments for inflammatory diseases.
Shares of ZymoGenetics Inc. rose 11 cents to $8.54.
