Shares of some top utilities companies were mixed at the close of trading:

AEP fell $.94 or 2.4 percent, to $38.09.

ConEd fell $.12 or .3 percent, to $41.16.

Duke Energy rose $.17 or 1.0 percent, to $17.29.

Pepco Holdings fell $.17 or .7 percent, to $24.14.

Southern Co fell $.32 or .9 percent, to $37.30.
