A Brazilian newspaper is reporting that U.S.-based SkyWest Airlines will buy a 20 percent stake in Brazilian regional carrier Trip.
The Estado de S. Paulo newspaper says the purchase is part of a plan by SkyWest to invest in markets outside the United States.
SkyWest Inc. on Thursday did not immediately return a telephone message left at its offices in Utah seeking comment. The communications company that handles media inquiries for Trip declined immediate comment.
SkyWest Airlines operates as United Express, Delta Connection and Midwest Connect carriers under contractual agreements with United Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Midwest Airlines. Trip Linhas Aereas SA serves 60 Brazilian destinations.
