Shares of some top insurers companies are down at 10 a.m.:

American Internation fell $.23 or 1.1 percent, to $20.99.

MBIA fell $.68 or 4.2 percent, to $15.25.

MGIC Investments fell $.38 or 4.1 percent, to $8.96.

XL Capital fell $.11 or .6 percent, to $18.51.
