Shares of some top utilities companies were mixed at the close of trading:

AEP fell $.64 or 1.7 percent, to $37.45.

ConEd fell $.60 or 1.5 percent, to $40.56.

Duke Energy rose $.02 or .1 percent, to $17.31.

Pepco Holdings fell $.51 or 2.1 percent, to $23.63.

Southern Co fell $.20 or .5 percent, to $37.10.
